Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner soon after starting.
The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
