Around 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for information.
An important representative commented the incident left him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
